10 years of children's restaurant

Bonn (red). Last week, the children's restaurant “Tischlein deck dich” on Brüser Berg celebrated its 10th birthday. The approximately 45 guests at the anniversary event included, in addition to the volunteers and the participating children, many parents, siblings, former participants as well as the school and OGS management.

The children's restaurant opened in May 2014. Since then, 15 children and 8 volunteer cooking sponsors meet once a month on a Saturday to cook, set the table and eat together. The volunteers help in advance with planning the 3-course menu and purchasing the groceries.

At around 1 p.m. everyone sits together to enjoy the food together and admire the table decorations. The children's parents and siblings are also regularly invited.

In ten years, around 2,500 meals have been prepared in the children's restaurant and 60 children have been introduced to the topics of healthy eating, communal eating and table culture in a playful way.

André Scholz, deputy. Managing Director of the Bonn Community Foundation, thanked the volunteers who have been passionately committed to the project for years and are thus making an important contribution to greater equal opportunities.

The “Tischlein deck dich” on Brüser Berg is the second children’s restaurant founded by the “Bonner Children’s Aid Fund”, a foundation under the umbrella of the Bonn Community Foundation. The Bonn Children's Aid Fund was set up in 2009 by a citizen of Bonn. The foundation promotes measures for the emotional, intellectual and physical development of children.
