Prince-designate defeats the king
On May 8th the time had come. For the first time, not only sports clubs, but all citizens of Hürth were allowed to nominate athletes for the sports award and the 1st Efferen Carnival Society did not miss this opportunity. And so this time it wasn't a carnival session that attracted its members to the community center, but rather the city of Hürth's big sports honor.
The deputy commander and designated Prince Thomas Urmann was suggested for the ascent of the "King Ortler" and the ascent of three three-thousanders within three days.
Anyone who knows Thomas Urmann knows that, in addition to carnival, sport plays a big role in his life.
He regularly manages to connect these two worlds and transfer the values to each other. At the 1st EKG, Thomas Urmann is known for transferring sporting virtues such as cohesion, ambition and perseverance to the club in fiery speeches based on his sporting experiences. His motivational speeches to the dance group and at club nights regularly show how much sport can strengthen tradition. At the same time, he gains from his club the certainty that he is not alone on the highest mountain in South Tyrol, but knows that an entire club is behind him when he takes the flag of the 1st Efferen Carnival Society out of his backpack at the mountain cross in the storm.
Like no other, Thomas manages to erase the boundaries between his sporting activities and club life and ensure a valuable exchange.
And so there was great jubilation when Ms. Ulrich gave the eulogy to a radiant, designated Prince 2025 and handed him the athlete honors certificate.
At the subsequent after-show party, local drink traditions were maintained. A sport that all members of the 1st EKG present are familiar with. And so the evening ended with good conversations with other athletes, representatives of the city of Hürth and representatives of the city sports association.
At this point, great respect should be paid to the winners of the Sportswoman of the Year, Sportsman of the Year, Team of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards! You are a true asset to sport and club life in the city of Hürth!
Athlete of the Year was the three-time German champion in Ju-Jutsu Judith Plasil, who achieved third place at the 2023 World Championships.
The racing driver Nico Hantke was voted athlete of the year for his promotion to the ADAC GT Masters.
The female rescue team from DLRG Hürth became the team of the year.
Volunteer of the Year is Burkhart Horn from BS Yamato Hürth, who has been the club's chairman for more than 17 years.
