Two carjackers busted by civilian investigators
After an attempted theft from a Ford Mondeo (driver: 33) on Wednesday evening (May 15th) in Cologne-Mülheim, civil investigators have provisionally arrested two suspected carjackers (28, 34).
They are accused of first using a jammer to interrupt the radio locking of the vehicle parked on Genovevastrasse and thus gaining access to the interior of the car via the "unlocked" passenger door. The 34-year-old suspect then searched the vehicle, while his accomplice is said to have confessed to bribery. The suspicious duo had previously been targeted by civilian forces while scouting out other crime opportunities in the city center. When the men wanted to flee toward Keupstrasse without loot around 7:15 p.m., the officers attacked.
During the subsequent search, the police discovered two so-called "jammers" (jammers) as well as a cell phone that had allegedly been stolen in Hamburg from the 34-year-old suspect. The investigation into this is ongoing. The two people arrested have no permanent residence in Germany and are due to be brought before a judge today
The Cologne police recommend that car owners who lock their car with a radio remote control ensure that the process is acknowledged by a visual and/or acoustic signal from the vehicle.
