Illegal race between Audi A6 and BMW 320D
On the night of Whit Monday (May 20th) around 1 a.m., the Cologne police seized an accident-damaged Audi A6 in Deutz, the driver's license of its 31-year-old driver and a BMW 320D along with the driving license of a 25-year-old. Also in coordination with the Cologne public prosecutor's office, the police confiscated the cell phones of the vehicle occupants. According to witnesses, those involved were said to have raced with squealing tires on Siegburger Straße at the level of the junction with Poller Kirchweg. At the road narrowing at the KVB stop there, the BMW driver pushed the Audi into the track bed in a sideways collision, where the A6 came to rest with a broken axle.
The highway police were dealing with another illegal motor vehicle race. Early on Sunday evening (May 19th) around 6 p.m., the Cologne motorway police had stopped and confiscated the Lamborghini of a British citizen (34) on the A4 at the Aachen intersection. The Briton had to pay a security deposit. Witnesses had recently alerted the police on the A61. As a result, the 34-year-old is said to have had a race with a previously unknown Porsche driver, who in turn left the motorway at the Erftstadt junction.
The officials initiated criminal proceedings against all of the accused on suspicion of taking part in prohibited motor vehicle races.
