Albert Einstein School is one of them
Rösrath. The Albert Einstein School has been included in the German network “School without Racism – School with Courage”. In this way, students, teachers and all employees are sending a clear signal against discrimination and racism. School principal Kerstin Merzhäuser received a certificate and the sign, which expresses the school community's unmistakable attitude against racism and for courage at the entrance, as part of the school festival from Barbara Grünjes-Zeilinger, the regional coordinator of the network at the Municipal Integration Center of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis , for the special school's great commitment to learning, emotional and social development and language. “The school management, teachers and students of the Albert Einstein School have clearly stated that they strive for peaceful coexistence by joining the network 'School without Racism - School with Courage'. You know that diversity is a strength and that everyone brings something to the community. Schools in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis should convey this basic value,” emphasized District Administrator Stephan Santelmann, who congratulated as well as Mayor Bondina Schulze.
“This is not an award that you can rest on your laurels. Rather, it is a commitment to the path that we are taking together here,” regional coordinator Barbara Grünjes-Zeilinger made clear and added to the students that “especially at a time when misanthropic and extremist positions are becoming louder in Germany, “Your courageous stand against racism and exclusion is a sign of strength and an important contribution to countering this.”
A variety of activities on the topic
The colorful school festival with many program items was the end of the project week at the Albert Einstein School, which was dedicated to the topic “School without racism - school with courage” and illuminated this in many facets. The deputy headmaster Herbert Esser praised the great commitment of the students and the entire staff at the award ceremony. The special school deals with the topic continuously and not just selectively. This year, groups of students visited nearby stumbling blocks, started a variety of activities in their classes and levels as part of the Day Against Racism and launched a weekly Courage AG. A group of students had already visited Keupstrasse in Cologne to get to know Turkish life better. Topics such as origins, cultures and nationalities were also addressed.
The Albert Einstein School won Sascha Gröhl as a sponsor for its participation in the “School without Racism – School with Courage” network. The Rösrath director and producer received two Grimme Awards for the documentary series “Zum Schwarzwälder Hirsch – an extraordinary kitchen crew and Tim Mälzer,” which was broadcast on VOX. “Our schools are not just places for learning, but for shaping future generations. It is our privilege and our responsibility to lay a foundation of respect, tolerance and courage early on. If we not only teach children the basic principles of equality and community at an early age, but also anchor them as a matter of course, we form a society in which there is no room for racism," explains the godfather and adds that "this path is not a moral dictate, but a loving introduction to the essential values of human interaction."
